25 Years of „Der Sture” – Frank Viehweg sings Silvio Rodríguez
In 1985, Frank Viehweg met Cuban songwriter Silvio Rodríguez at the „Festival of Political Songs” in Berlin and decided to translate his songs into German – a challenge that had a lasting impact on his life. During a stay in Cuba in 1994, the idea for a CD with Rodríguez's songs in Viehweg's German translations emerged. Supported by Marion Gerber of „Cuba S”, as well as Sylvia Viehweg and Thomas Leinhos, the project received Rodríguez's approval in September 1995.
In 1996, the CD Der Sture was released, featuring Viehweg with several musicians. For its 25th anniversary, the album was reissued by the label „Raumer Records”." Viehweg playfully considers Rodríguez the greatest songwriter in the world.
