A Musical Homage to Lin Jaldati z"l (1912–1988)
A letter postmarked March 5, 1940, is preserved in the archives of Lin Jaldati and Eberhard Rebling at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. It is a brown paper envelope bearing the YIVO logo from Vilna. Inside are six folk songs and four Nigunim, handwritten.
The letter was written by Zelig Kalmanovitch (1885–1944), the director of YIVO, who was murdered along with many of the institute's staff in Vilna. Yet, the letter has survived.
Jalda Rebling and Franka Lampe recorded these previously unknown songs and Nigunim, publishing all the texts in the booklet accompanying the CD „A Brivele fun Vilne”.
